License Preparations

HOW IT WORKS
-The state of North Carolina requires anyone under 18 to complete a driver education course with at least 30 hours of classroom instruction and a minimum of 6 hours of behind‑the‑wheel instruction. To register for a class, you must be at least 14 years and 6 months old by the first day of class.

-After you complete the classroom phase, students in each class are placed in order by date of birth, from oldest to youngest, and will drive in that order. You should receive a call within 90–120 days to begin the driving portion (this time frame is mostly due to a shortage of instructors).

-Instructors will do their best to work with your schedule. Most driving sessions are held in the afternoons, evenings, and on Saturdays; some instructors also drive in the mornings before school.

-Behind‑the‑wheel instruction is not one‑on‑one (unless noted in the contract). There will be two students in the vehicle at all times.
